Commission for :iconmistressofike:
Cellshade kind of portrait of Zelgius, in his black armor but without the helmet ^^

It took me way to long, that lineart xDDD I didn't like how the armor turned every time I worked on it, so I just messed around before I redid it *dies*

I liked how it turned at the end, tho =) I love the cape and all the fabrics on the design x3 I have fun with organic lines like those.

Hehe, hope you like!

I'd like to start off by saying that this is a very excellent piece. I faved this long ago and didn't comment, so now I feel obligated to write a critique, seeing as how good this picture turned out.

I'll start with the good points:
Your art style is amazing, and Zelgius looks very good in your style. He looks like himself, but you can tell that this is not a trace or something else silly like that because it has a definite style change that is especially evident in the face. His expression is intense and pointed, fitting for one of his character and stature.
The shading is good, but the highlights are what really make the piece look great. Your consistency with placing shows an obvious light source from the bottom right, and gives a metallic glint to the armor. This makes it look reflective and lifelike, while not being too harsh. The shading on the face looks very real and natural. I also like the shadow you added. It incorperates the background as part of the picture, instead of looking flat.
I also admire your ability to pay attention to the detail of Zelgius as a character that is not yours. Everything, from the design of the armor and the damage on it, to the red and black cape (as opposed to the red-only cape from Path of Radiance) shows a great effort on your part to make sure he appears exactly as he does in Radiant Dawn, where his identity is revealed. This attention to detail is incredible, and is something that we die-hard Fire Emblem fans really have to admire.
I really like his pose, his stance seems very similar to his in-game portrait, but this only serves to make him seem more in-character for this picture. The motion of the cape and other fabric is not only realistic, but breaks up what would otherwise be a very static pose, and it was a great move on your part to have this "wind effect".

And now for some critique:
This is such a great piece, it's hard for me to find anything to comment on. I do have a couple things, however.
I mentioned above that his pose felt just a wee bit static. While the movement of the fabric helps this greatly, it puzzles me a little why his hair does not seem to move in the "wind" you created with the motion of the fabric. While there does seem to be a little movement, it is in the opposite direction that the fabric blows, which seems a little counter-intuitive.
Another point (and this one may be greatly personal) is that I don't really like the fact that both of his hands are hidden. Hands can be challenging to draw, and hiding them is a neat trick, but making a figure look symmectical can contribute to a static feel. I'm not saying that you were intentionally hiding the hands because of laziness or anything, because you appear to be more than capable of drawing (would if I only had a fraction of your talent), but it just stands out to me and I know that I've hidden hands because I'm too lazy to draw them...
And this leands me to my final point. This one is borne purely of my Fire Emblem fan side, but I think it's worth mentioning. If one hand was freed from holding the cape, it could be used to include Zelgius's sword, Alondite, in the picture. It is the Black Knight's special weapon, and including it in the picture would make it seem even more canon, and would provide a nice prop for you to toy with in imporving the pose.
It looks good, but paying attention to the tiniest details can make it look even better.

Great job! This one was an instant fave for me, and I (finally) got around to reviewing it, because that's what it deserves.
